Guylaine Walsh Artist's Statement
Born curius, spontaneous and creative, i describe myself as a "fastasian", another word for hat maker or milliner. I add "écolo" because all my creations are green, made 100% fro,e recycled items.
For many years, i have been toying with these recyclables which i find so abundant, inspiring and affordable, and my natural curiosity is thus satisfied, completed and renewed. This has been so since 2006 with the creation of small collections of hats sewn by hand and made as unique pieces out of recycled neckties and wool sweaters.
I love surprising people, doing things differently, finding a little extra something to define my so...unique self! My hats are, in fact, carriers of a deeper message just because they are made from recyclables.
Exploring new avenues, new materials to use in promoting myself and publicizing my hats, is always a new and stimulating challenge. Exploring is an integral part of my quest.
At times, an error appears and it keeps me humble. error is part of my intuitive search:! I see it more like a tool set before me...! I often accept to use it and progress further. I have often found it to suggest a new way of expression.
